Record #125567:

Growth condition of an ice layer in freezing soils under applied loads: 1. Experiment / Kazuo Takeda, Yoshisuke Nakano.

Title: Growth condition of an ice layer in freezing soils under applied loads: 1. Experiment / Kazuo Takeda, Yoshisuke Nakano.
Author(s): Takeda, Kazuo.
Nakano, Yoshisuke.
Date: 1993.
In: CRREL Report. (1993.), Vol. 93-21 (1993)
Abstract: Tests on Kanto loam. Steady growth condition was found to be determined by absolute value of temperature gradient of unfrozen part of soil αu near 0°C isotherm and that of unfrozen part of soil αf near warmest end of ice layer under given hydraulic conditions and applied effective pressure σ as follows: αu=Aαf, k₁/k₀>AS(σ), where k₁ and k₀ are thermal conductivities of frozen and unfrozen parts, respectively, A is constant and S is increasing function of σ.
