Record #125488:
Ice-core/ocean interactions at the mouth of Hudson Strait, Arctic Canada / G.H. Miller, W. Manley, M. Duvall, D. Kaufman.
Title: | Ice-core/ocean interactions at the mouth of Hudson Strait, Arctic Canada / G.H. Miller, W. Manley, M. Duvall, D. Kaufman. |
Author(s): | Miller, G. H. Manley, W. Duvall, M. Kaufman, D. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1993.), Vol. 74(43, supplement) (1993) |
Abstract: | Abstract. Direct field observations coupled with analytical data and AMS ¹⁴C dating acquired during last 10 years enable reappraisal of glacier activity in strait during last glaciation. Evidence suggests that strait was repeatedly overwhelmed by ice flowing from Labradorean dispersal centre that moved across (rather than down) strait. Occurrence of cirques and roche moutonées indicate that this may have been dominant glacial style throughout Late Pleistocene. At glacial maximum, 400 km calving margin is estimated to have contributed icebergs into North Atlantic at rate of 2000 km a⁻¹, affecting thermohaline circulation. |
