Record #125487:

The binge/purge model of the North Atlantic's Heinrich events: a meshy problem / T.K. Dupont, Douglas R. MacAyeal.

Title: The binge/purge model of the North Atlantic's Heinrich events: a meshy problem / T.K. Dupont, Douglas R. MacAyeal.
Author(s): Dupont, T. K.
MacAyeal, Douglas R.
Date: 1993.
In: Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1993.), Vol. 74(43, supplement) (1993)
Abstract: Abstract. Discusses this model and tests it by finite-element modelling of Laurentide ice sheet, applying two finite element meshes of differing areal extent and resolution. Large-scale low-resolution mesh is applied during slow "binge" phase, and smaller higher resolution mesh is applied during quick "purge" phase of cycle. This results in increased computation efficiency, produced by using higher resolution mesh only at most dynamically active times, and only in most dynamically active area. Model must produce "binge and purge" cycle of similar periodicity to that observed in ocean sediment record, in addition to simulating iceberg flux similar to that inferred from surface water δ¹⁸O changes.
