Abstract: Summary only. Tests of snow accretion were carried out in conditions close to those in Shinkansen, Japan, in cold room. Results indicated that heat needed to melt accreted snow or to transform it into snow jam is 3.5 kW m⁻², and heat capacity to melt accreted snow at station within 90 s is 1.5 kW m⁻².
