Title: Observations of the dynamic structure of snow avalanches / K. Nishimura, N. Maeno, F. KristensenK. Sandersen, H. Norem, K. Lied.
Author(s): Nishimura, K.
Maeno, N.

Date: 1993.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 18 (1993)
Abstract: Full-scale avalanche studies in western Norway during winters 1990-91 and 1991-92. Artificially released wet-snow avalanches ran down avalanche chute and stopped in front of retaining dam. Running velocity distributions were obtained by video tape recorder and other instruments. Internal velocity was derived for last avalanche by frequency analysis of impact pressure and optical sensor data. Vertical velocity shear of avalanche flow was estimated as 1 to 10 s⁻¹.
