Record #125435:

The influence of the layered character of snow cover on the triggering of slab avalanches / Jürg Schweizer.

Title: The influence of the layered character of snow cover on the triggering of slab avalanches / Jürg Schweizer.
Author(s): Schweizer, Jürg.
Date: 1993.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 18 (1993)
Abstract: Discusses prevention of slab avalanches triggered by skiers. Depth of weak layer, slab hardness, and sublayering of slab are important factors. Stress distribution induced by skier is calculated by finite element method for typical snow-cover configurations. Analysis suggests that shear failure is most probably at transition from hard to soft layer.
