| Abstract: | Abstract. Discusses results of core drillings in 1986 and 1987 near Hokkaido. Cores were analyzed for stratigraphy, density and free water content. Concludes that transformation has three stages: formation of superimposed ice, densification of water-saturated firn layer, and freezing of wet and/or water-saturated firn by cold wave penetration. |
