Analysis of powder-snow avalanches using three-dimensional topographic data / Yusuke Fukushima, Norio Hayakawa.
Title: | Analysis of powder-snow avalanches using three-dimensional topographic data / Yusuke Fukushima, Norio Hayakawa. |
Author(s): | Fukushima, Yusuke. Hayakawa, Norio. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Annals of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 18 (1993) |
Abstract: | Fluid-dynamical model is developed, which takes into account three-dimensional topography and can compute running course of avalanche. Also predicts variations of height, speed, and concentration of snow particles in avalanche, as well as level of turbulence. Application of model to avalanche at Maseguchi, which occurred in 1986 at Niigata, Japan, shows that it can provide reasonable prediction of running course, height and speed of avalanche. |
Notes: | Annals of Glaciology. Vol. 18 :102-106 (1993). |
