Record #125417:
An accurate measurement of densities of snowflakes using 3-D microphotographs / Masaaki Ishizaka.
Title: | An accurate measurement of densities of snowflakes using 3-D microphotographs / Masaaki Ishizaka. |
Author(s): | Ishizaka, Masaaki. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Annals of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 18 (1993) |
Abstract: | Density of falling snowflakes was obtained by estimatng volume with 3-D photographs and by measuring mass directly with electro-balance. Values obtained were compared with degree of riming and size of each snowflake. Results show that rime is prime factor in increasing density. Density is not sensitive to change of size of flake itself, but depends slightly on size of constituent snow crystals. |
Notes: | Annals of Glaciology. Vol. 18 :92-96 (1993). |
Keywords: | 551.578.4 -- Ice needles, sleet, falling snow and graupel. 551.578.41 -- Snow, structure, composition and temperature. E3 -- Glaciology: instruments and methods. |
