Record #125407:

A striped pattern of snowfall and snow cover / Yasuaki Nohguchi, Takashi Ikarashi, Osamu Abe, Atsushi Sato.

Title: A striped pattern of snowfall and snow cover / Yasuaki Nohguchi, Takashi Ikarashi, Osamu Abe, Atsushi Sato.
Author(s): Nohguchi, Yasuaki.
Ikarashi, Takashi.
Abe, Osamu.
Sato, Atsushi.
Date: 1993.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 18 (1993)
Abstract: Striped pattern can be seen by spraying ink on vertical wall of snow pit to observe layered structure. Pattern is caused by variations of snowfall in time, particularly pauses, and structure is related to a kind of fractal. Here, snowfall and snow cover are considered from viewpoint of fractals, and it is shown that layered structure is record of fractals on atmospheric-turbulence phenomena though time variation of snowfall.
