Pack ice anisotropic constitutive model / Max D. Coon, Douglas C. Echert, Gerald S. Knoke.

Title: Pack ice anisotropic constitutive model / Max D. Coon, Douglas C. Echert, Gerald S. Knoke.
Author(s): Coon, Max D.

Knoke, Gerald S.
Date: [1993]
Publisher: Edmonton, Alberta: University of Alberta, Department of Civil Engineering
In: IAHR 92; 11th International Symposium on Ice, Banff, Alberta, Canada, June 15-19, 1992. Proceedings. ([1993]), Vol.2.
Abstract: Aim was to improve accuracy of ice models so that effects due to climate change can be distinguished from interannual variability. Describes development of two-dimensional plastic anisotropic model of ice which includes creation of new leads in thick ice and effects of leads and their orientation on strength of ice cover. Model requires oriented thickness distribution to account for growth and ridging of ice in refrozen leads. Shear and compressive strength of each lead are functions of lead ice thickness distribution. Plans to verify model are discussed.
