Record #125398:
Fracturing and crack growth velocity of brackish sea ice / Lars Stehn.
Title: | Fracturing and crack growth velocity of brackish sea ice / Lars Stehn. |
Author(s): | Stehn, Lars. |
Date: | [1993] |
Publisher: | Edmonton, Alberta: University of Alberta, Department of Civil Engineering |
In: | IAHR 92; 11th International Symposium on Ice, Banff, Alberta, Canada, June 15-19, 1992. Proceedings. ([1993]), Vol.2. |
Abstract: | Fracture-toughness tests were carried out on first-year columnar and granular sea ice. Resulting brittle fracture is discussed in terms of crack velocity and specimen size/crack length effects. Using short rod chevron notched (SRCN) configuration for which initial crack growth is shown to be stable, and measured load-point displacements, preliminary crack growth velocities are found. Discusses results, which suggest that critical crack growth occurs with negligible generation of kinetic energy. |
