Abstract: Fluid underneath beam is modelled using two-dimensional incompressible potential flow theory. Fundamental solutions are presented and, as application, dynamic behaviour of forced sub-surface uplift problem is studied. Comparisons are made with solution obtained by added mass model. Practical use for class of solutions obtained is sudden loading of floating ice, such as submarine surfacings and aircraft landings.
