Probabilistic behaviour of a Poisson field of flaws in ice subjected to indentation / Marc A. Maes.
Title: | Probabilistic behaviour of a Poisson field of flaws in ice subjected to indentation / Marc A. Maes. |
Author(s): | Maes, Marc A. |
Date: | [1993] |
Publisher: | Edmonton, Alberta: University of Alberta, Department of Civil Engineering |
In: | IAHR 92; 11th International Symposium on Ice, Banff, Alberta, Canada, June 15-19, 1992. Proceedings. ([1993]), Vol.2. |
Abstract: | Crushing of sea ice against fixed structure is viewed as stochastic process in time and space. Variations in stress level are ascribed to unstable propagation of cracks that have grown because of damage. In framework of typical indentation problem, two stochastic variables are examined: stress at which crack in in Poisson field of cracks reaches critical damage level, and location of failure event which determines size of material failed and expelled. |
