Abstract: Developed in connection with oil and gas exploration efforts in Arctic, when knowledge of mechanical properties of sea ice was necessary in order to determine ice forces on structures and bearing capacity of ice. It was desirable to have tool which would yield strength and stiffness at 1.3 to 0.5 m intervals through depth of ice.
