Abstract: Describes possible changes under 2xCO₂ climate. Changes were quantified with conventional microcomputer ice-growth/decay model. Temperature, wind and precipitation data were obtained from two 2xCO₂ circulation models, "base" climate, and observed warm year (1989). Models indicated reduction in ice thickness at all locations, receding of polar pack over 250 km to north, more rapid melting of thick ice floes (ice islands), less consolidation of first-year ridges (hence, thinner multiyear ridges and floes), and less extent and later formation of landfast ice.
