Abstract: Following earlier (1993) identification of hoar event in summer 1990, this technique has now been used successfully to identify three further hoar events in summer 1992. In addition, spatial extent of characteristic hoar signal is demonstrated for major hoar events in 1990 and 1992. Also presents evidence indicating that signal is characteristic of summer hoar formation and that it is largely absent in winter. Hoar layers have been used to date Greenland Ice Sheet Project II ice core through entire Holocene; archived microwave data can now be used to assess timing and frequency of formation of these stratigraphic markers in central Greenland.
