Abstract: Ozone depletion, bringing about enhanced levels of ultraviolet radiation, will have deleterious impact on marine biota. Presence of sea ice complicates assessment of this effect. Two-stream radiative transfer model is modified for use at ultraviolet wavelengths and used to estimate penetration of ultraviolet radiation through sea ice, with case studies for sea ice in McMurdo Sound and Weddell Sea.
