Abstract: Observations made during Winter Weddell Gyre Project, 1989. Radiometer measurements made at 611 MHz and 10 GHz, accompanied by video and visual observations. Using theory of radiometric emission from layered medium, method for deriving sea-ice thickness from radiometer data is developed and tested. Model is based on incoherent reflection process and predicts that emissivity os saline ice increases monotonically with increasing ice thickness until saturation occurs.
