Abstract: River crossing is achieved using ferry in spring, summer and autumn, and ice bridge during winter; in spring and autumn, when breakup and freezeup cause problems, crossing ceases and freight is airlifted across river. This investigation assesses feasibility of further extending operation of ferry into breakup period. It is hoped that this preliminary investigation will lead to eventual development of forecasting system which could extend ferry operations.
