A comparison of crack initiation conditions for columnar-grain and granular ice / Lorne W. Gold, Stephen J. Jones, T.D. Slade.
Title: | A comparison of crack initiation conditions for columnar-grain and granular ice / Lorne W. Gold, Stephen J. Jones, T.D. Slade. |
Author(s): | Gold, Lorne W. Jones, Stephen J. Slade, T. D. |
Date: | [1993] |
Publisher: | Edmonton, Alberta: University of Alberta, Department of Civil Engineering |
In: | IAHR 92; 11th International Symposium on Ice, Banff, Alberta, Canada, June 15-19, 1992. Proceedings. ([1993]), Vol.1. |
Abstract: | Measurements were made of stress and strain induced in columnar-grain, type S2 ice by uniaxial stress applied perpendicular to long direction of grains in stiff testing machine. Formation of cracks was recorded concurrently with video camera. Test were carried at --5, --10, --20 and --30°C on ice of average grain size 2.3 to 9.2 mm. Grain size and temperature dependence of stress and strain at time of initiation of first crack was similar to that observed previously for granular ice. |
Notes: | In: IAHR 92; 11th International Symposium on Ice, Banff, Alberta, Canada, June 15-19, 1992. Proceedings. Vol.1. / International Association for Hydraulic Research. |
