Abstract: Abstract. Reports AMS dating of diatom-rich sediment from upper part of piston cores collected recently from Ross Sea. This sediment overlies diamicton. Results suggest decrease in permanent glacial and/or sea-ice cover from north to south, dating from 6300 BP for inception of Holocene productivity from northernmost core to 1800 BP for core from west of Ross Island. MS data used to characterize glacimarine lithofacies; variations in MS reflect lithofacies changes within cores.
