Record #125071:

Sea ice -- a view from the Ice Bench / A.P. Maythem.

Title: Sea ice -- a view from the Ice Bench / A.P. Maythem.
Author(s): Maythem, A. P.
Date: 1993.
In: Meteorological Magazine. (1993.), Vol. 122(1453) (1993)
Abstract: Reviews formation of sea ice and some characteristics of sea ice of north polar regions. Describes four distinct systems of cryosphere in northern hemisphere: (i) North Atlantic, with access to Pole and major outflow of ice from there, (ii) North Atlantic, without access to Pole, (iii) North Pacific, with access to Pole, but no forced outflow, only seasonal ice growth, and unaffected by polar gyre, (iv) fresh-water sea-ice areas of Baltic and Black Sea. Describes features such as polynya, odden, whalers' bay, and fronts (persistent interfaces between cold and warm water)
