Abstract: Points out that, unlike snow cover and sea ice, response of glaciers to climate change is very slow. Measurement of changes in relative volume by satellite sensors requires data delineating changes in area (from images) and in elevation (radar and laser altimetry or satellite photogrammetry). Reviews recent research under headings of methodology, analysis and results, applications, examples of satellite remote sensing studies, and limitations (lack of systematic and repetitive data acquisition, and cost)
