Record #124832:

Sea ice radar signatures from ERS-1 SAR during late summer and fall in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas / Benjamin Holt.

Title: Sea ice radar signatures from ERS-1 SAR during late summer and fall in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas / Benjamin Holt.
Author(s): Holt, Benjamin.
Date: 1993.
Publisher: Paris: European Space Agency
In: Proceedings of the First ERS-1 Symposium; Space at the Service of our Environment; 4-6 November 1992, Cannes, France. (1993.), Vol.1.
Abstract: Radar backscatter statistics have been obtained from ERS-1 imagery, using common floes tracked through consecutive repeat images whenever possible. During summer, strong fluctuations in ice signatures were observed over 2 to 3-day periods, which were found to be related closely to air-temperature excursions above and below freezing that alters phase of ice surface. As air temperatures drop in autumn, signatures become brighter and more stable. Signatures also vary with latitude.
