Record #124756:
Devensian thermal contraction networks and cracks at Somersham, Cambridgeshire, UK / Richard G. West.
Title: | Devensian thermal contraction networks and cracks at Somersham, Cambridgeshire, UK / Richard G. West. |
Author(s): | West, Richard G. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1993.), Vol. 4(4) (1993) |
Abstract: | Describes these features which are associated with gravel aggradations of low terraces of Great Ouse River. Discusses relative ages, with aim of establishing palaeoenvironmental significance and stratigraphical relationships. Major period of permafrost in area is correlated with Weichselian Late Pleniglacial major event in Netherlands (24 to 17 ka BP) and similar event in Poland (22 to 19-20 ka BP); broadly, period leading up to and associated with advance of Late Devensian (Weichselian) ice in Britain and on continent. |
Notes: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. Vol. 4(4) :277-300 (1993). |
Keywords: | 551.34 -- Geocryology. Frozen ground. 551.343 -- Periglacial processes. Thermokarst. 551.345.3 -- Permafrost, composition and structure.
