Record #124742:
Controls of ice stagnation during retreat of Pleistocene valley glaciers, San Juan Mountains, Colorado / E.E. Small.
Title: | Controls of ice stagnation during retreat of Pleistocene valley glaciers, San Juan Mountains, Colorado / E.E. Small. |
Author(s): | Small, E. E. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1993.), Vol. 74(43, supplement) (1993) |
Abstract: | Abstract. Aim was to determine which variables control retreat of valley glacier with active or stagnant margin. Previous work has been limited to describing presence of modern stagnant glacier ice and to suggesting causes of stagnation for single glaciers. Evidence from 50 valleys in these mountains indicates that stagnant ice conditions prevailed during retreat of many Pleistocene valley glaciers. Conceptual model is developed that predicts if valley glacier retreats with stagnant or active margin. |
