Record #124417:

The need for removing biases from rain and snowgage measurements / David R. Legates.

Title: The need for removing biases from rain and snowgage measurements / David R. Legates.
Author(s): Legates, David R.
Date: 1993.
In: Glaciological Data. (1993.), Report GD-25 (1993)
Abstract: Accuracy of precipitation measurements is undermined by errors: inhomogeneities in existing time-series may be caused by non-climatic factors such as changes in instrumentation and recording practices, temporal variations in siting characteristics, and station relocation. Also, errors may be induced through effects of wind, wetting on interior walls of gauge, and evaporation from gauge. These concerns must be addressed if accurate and reliable time-series are to be obtained.
