| Abstract: | Methods of observing snow cover are reviewed, recent endeavours to improve or enhance data collection are discussed, and some results of short- and long-term monitoring efforts are presented. Continental snow cover is emphasized, although discussion of snow on Arctic sea ice is also included. Recommendations are made for ongoing monitoring efforts for remainder of this decade and for retrospective studies covering past century. |
