Abstract: | Interesting book "Lovazero" came out in 1988. It is obtainable for moderate price of 75 kopecks. Article is translation of excerpt covering Russian Lapland in late 15th cent. From Stephen Burroughs's diary of 1557 comes list of articles traded in region and account of Saami food-gathering on cliffs. Danish king's raid on English and Dutch trading ships was followed by Russian attempt to fortify some coast towns, followed in turn by Boris Godunov's declaration of ownership and Swedish raids in 1589 and 1591, repulsed by "our heroic Kola lads". |
