Record #124302:
Impact forces between floes in the Newfoundland ice margin / Richard F. McKenna, Longjun Gao.
Title: | Impact forces between floes in the Newfoundland ice margin / Richard F. McKenna, Longjun Gao. |
Author(s): | McKenna, Richard F. Gao, Longjun. |
Date: | 1993. |
Publisher: | Hamburg: Hamburg Ship Model Basin (HSVA), Department for Ice and Environmental Technology |
In: | POAC 93 : the 12th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, 17.--20. August 1993, Hamburg. (1993.), Vol.2. |
Abstract: | Describes field experiment conducted in March 1992 to estimate collision forces between ice floes. Focuses on natural floe collisions as result of wave propagation through ice pack. Forces were inferred by recording accelerations on surface of floes. Ice pack consisted of first-year floes 10 to 20 m in diameter and 0.3 to 1.0 m thick. |
