Abstract: Study began in 1988. Glacigenic beds form thick succession that includes uniformly massive to poorly stratified diamictites that pass abruptly into overlying marine rocks. Lower facies of marine section is organic-rich mudstone that contains variable ice-rafted component characterized by sand-sized material and scattered pebbles and cobbles. Mudstone contains Tasmanite oil shale and record period of enhanced primary productivity coupled with ice rafting. Lower interval records polar to subpolar glacial marine conditions characterized by very cold waters, seasonal sea ice and associated ice-marginal phytoplankton blooms and shore-ice rafting. Temperate conditions are suggested later by presence of plant macrofossils and increase in sedimentation rates.
