Record #124072:

Variables influencing survival in four generations of captive-born muskoxen / Peter C. Lent, W.J. Davis.

Title: Variables influencing survival in four generations of captive-born muskoxen / Peter C. Lent, W.J. Davis.
Author(s): Lent, Peter C.
Davis, W. J.
Date: 1993.
In: Rangifer. (1993.), Vol. 13(3) (1993)
Abstract: Since 1967 four generations of muskoxen have been born in captivity in Alaska, all derived from 20 females and 8 males. Juvenile survival was analysed by dividing into 7 classes, from "born dead" to "survived 2 years". More males than females were born alive but more females reached 2 years. Birth weight was same for both sexes and did not significantly affect survival. 131 of 463 animals showed some inbreeding. Analysis showed lesser proportion of inbred calves surviving to 2 years but no significant differences in perinatal mortality. Offspring of original cows survived longer than later calves.
