| Abstract: | Describes activities of Operator Committee North (OKN), organization formed by oil company operators in Norwegian offshore area north of 62°, in order to obtain environmental data, particularly that relating to icebergs and sea ice. Analysis of air photographs, obtained each spring from 1988 to 1992, has provided data on iceberg shape and size, and their total mass can be deduced. Data were analyzed to obtain frequency of occurrence and probability of exceedance statistics. Strip photogrphs, northwards from ice edge, were analyzed for ice concentration and ice-floe length, width and area, and variation with distance from ice edge. |
