Abstract: Presents analytical corroboration of work of S.U. Bhat on floe splitting (Cold Regions Science and Technology, 1988, 15(1) :53-63), in which splitting mode was modelled by initiation and propagation of radial cracks on impact with rigid structure. Bhat treated splitting problem using methods of linear elastic fracture mechanics and finite element method. Object of this paper is to build upon these investigations.
