Record #123883:

Short- and long-term variability of snow albedo. Paper presented at the 9th Northern Res. Basin Symposium/Workshop (Whitehorse/Dawson/Inuvik, Canada - August 1992) / Jan-Gunnar Winther.

Title: Short- and long-term variability of snow albedo. Paper presented at the 9th Northern Res. Basin Symposium/Workshop (Whitehorse/Dawson/Inuvik, Canada - August 1992) / Jan-Gunnar Winther.
Author(s): Winther, Jan-Gunnar.
Date: 1993.
In: Nordic Hydrology. (1993.), Vol. 24(2-3) (1993)
Abstract: Presents study on progress of snow albedo for winter 1991 at site near Trondheim, Norway. Temporal reduction of albedo decreases as snow metamorphizes, as long as snow depth is large enough to prevent absorption of solar radiation by underlying terrin. Later, as snow depth decreases and area of bare terrain increases, temporal rate of reduction in albedo increases. Accumulated daily maximum temperature index will predict long-term development of snow albedo and daily mean albedo satisfactorily. Actual albedo deviates from predicted long-term albedo because of variable meteorological conditions of which solar radiation is most important.
