Record #123779:
Composition and distribution of meso-zooplankton in the Nansen Basin, Arctic Ocean, during summer / Nicolai Mumm.
Title: | Composition and distribution of meso-zooplankton in the Nansen Basin, Arctic Ocean, during summer / Nicolai Mumm. |
Author(s): | Mumm, Nicolai. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Polar Biology. (1993.), Vol. 13(7) (1993) |
Abstract: | Use of ice-breaker Polarstern in 1987 enabled two transects of upper 500 m in Nansen Basin, reached otherwise only by submarine or from ice camps. Spatial variations in composition, abundance and biomass are described, with special emphasis on possible arrivals via Fram Strait. Copepods clearly dominate, with ostracods and chaetognaths most important groups of remainder of zooplankton. Article describes two major faunal assemblages overlapping over centre of basin. Zonation closely resembles major hydrographic and topographic features. |
