Abstract: Compares Arctic maritime claims and policies of Canada with those of Russian Federation and USSR. Policies are first identified, then shaping factors are considered. Discusses acceptability of these policies to other states with special interests in region and seeks to propose realistic solutions in cases of conflict. Based on abridged and updated version of author's Ph.D. thesis submitted to Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 1989.
