Record #123614:

Comparison of the passive microwave spectral signature of the Antarctic ice sheet with ground traverse data / Sylviane Surdyk, Michel Fily.

Title: Comparison of the passive microwave spectral signature of the Antarctic ice sheet with ground traverse data / Sylviane Surdyk, Michel Fily.
Author(s): Surdyk, Sylviane.
Fily, Michel.
Date: 1993.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 17 (1993)
Abstract: Scanning multichannel microwave radiometer (SMMR) data are compared with snow characteristics measured during traverses (average density over 0 to 2 m, 10 m temperature, grain-size distributions, and number of strata). Local study of specified areas and global study show some strong dependence between satellite and ground data. Polarization ratios are affected by stratification of snow, large ratios corresponding to strong stratification. This also implies dependence between polarization rates and density, because low density induces strong stratification.
