Record #123593:

Helicopter-borne radio-echo sounding of Svartisen, Norway / Michael I. Kennett, Tron Laumann, Cecilie Lund.

Title: Helicopter-borne radio-echo sounding of Svartisen, Norway / Michael I. Kennett, Tron Laumann, Cecilie Lund.
Author(s): Kennett, Michael I.
Laumann, Tron.
Lund, Cecilie.
Date: 1993.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 17 (1993)
Abstract: Describes development of low-frequency radar system for depth sounding of temperate glaciers. Radar consists of standard transmitter and digital receiver equipment, with long antennae supported on aluminium and fibreglass construction hanging 20 m below helicopter. Has been used on Engabreen, where ice thicknesses of up to 350 m were obtained. Results used to construct map of bed topography of lower part of glacier.
