Record #123588:

Translated title: Sediment transport by Arctic sea ice: the recent load of lithogenic and biogenic material.
Author(s): Wollenburg, Inge.
Date: 1993.
Language: German.
In: Berichte zur Polarforschung = Reports on Polar Research. (1993.), Vol. 127 (1993)
Abstract: Sediments from surface samples and ice cores of sea ice from Eurasian Basin, Fram Strait, and Greenland and Barents seas were investigated, and show importance of rafting for modern sedimentary environment. Sufficient litho- and biogenic material was observed to account for large part of average sedimentation rate in potential ablation areas, such as Fram Strait. With sedimentological data, variations in ice drift can be specified; with biogenic material, "cryopelagic" fauna characteristic of sea-ice environment can be identified.
