Record #123569:

Dyeing of snow surfaces to observe structure / Austin Kovacs.

Title: Dyeing of snow surfaces to observe structure / Austin Kovacs.
Author(s): Kovacs, Austin.
Date: 1993.
In: CRREL Special Report. (1993.), Vol. 93-9 (1993)
Abstract: Describes surface colouring method for highlighting natural stratigraphy and load-induced structure in snow at low ambient temperatures in confined areas. Methods includes planing wall of snow pit and then dyeing surface using alcohol dye applied by electric sprayer. Surface heating and backlighting are also discussed as methods for revealing hidden detail, especially when photographic evidence of snow structure is important.
