Record #123528:

Prehistoric Eskimo whaling in the Arctic: slaughter of calves or fortuitous ecology? / Igor I. Krupnik.

Title: Prehistoric Eskimo whaling in the Arctic: slaughter of calves or fortuitous ecology? / Igor I. Krupnik.
Author(s): Krupnik, Igor I.
Date: 1993.
In: Arctic Anthropology. (1993.), Vol. 30(1) (1993)
Abstract: Discusses differing opinions on reasons for selective hunting of calves by prehistoric Eskimo whalers, in this case gray whale hunting off Chukchi Peninsula and concludes they are not mutually exclusive and that this type of whaling was outcome of highly pragmatic strategy.
