Abstract: Polar and Nordic link in United Nations GRID network of environmental data centres opened in 1989. Describes centre's staff, software packages, hardware and users (mainly planners). Three main areas of service are: 1. Database and directory of global data sets and another directory of Arctic data sets; 2. Information Service; 3. GIS and Remote Sensing Service, with tools for data integration, assessment and presentation. GRID-Arendal is involved in monitoring ozone layer, "State of Environment Norway" project, share in promoting sustainable development and production of interpolation algorithms.
