Abstract: Identifies threats to Antarctic environment from external sources (air- and sea-borne contaminants) and internal sources (wastes and other damages resulting from human presence -- industrial, scientific, tourist) and discusses three types of legal provisions in effect: preventative (i.e., bans), regulatory (protected areas, etc.) and repressive (penalties and fines). Discusses provisions of Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty and its five annexes.
