| Abstract: | Västerås businessman Hülphers nearly published this volume in 1797, but merely left source documents, which Gottfrid Kallstenius edited and put together in this publication. Hülphers's northern journeys took place in 1758 and 1760, and never reached Lapland. His Lapland material included information from pastors in Jokkmokk, Över-Torneå, Kemi, Lycksele, Arvidsjaur, Enontekis, Utsjoki, Kuusamo, Sodankylä and from schoolmaster in Arjeplog. Sections are grouped under Umeå, Piteå, Luleå, Torneå and Kemi. Includes descriptions of terrain and economy, mining, trade, communications and settlements. Extract from diocesan annals by Hans Jonsf. Tunaei from 1790 is included. |
