Observation of flooded ice in Arctic regions / A.K. Goroch, Robert W. Fett.
Title: | Observation of flooded ice in Arctic regions / A.K. Goroch, Robert W. Fett. |
Author(s): | Goroch, A. K. Fett, Robert W. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | International Journal of Remote Sensing. (1993.), Vol. 14(7) (1993) |
Abstract: | Examines case of flooding (8 June 1989) with NOAA and DMSP visible and infrared measurements supplemented by DMSP microwave imager (SSM/I) data. Analysis of visible and infrared data for sunglint region was used to show distribution of flooding at 72°N, 135°W. Simple model was developed for radiative transfer at microwave wavelengths through brine layer over ice. Predictions of model were consistent with spatial behaviour of SSM/I measurements. Case study demonstrates usefulness of combined visible, infrared and microwave measurements for differentiating between flooded broken ice and open-water regions, even in presence of cloud cover or surface fog. |
