Hydrography and vertical fluxes of heat and salt northeast of Svalbard in autumn / Michael Steele, James H. Morison.
Title: | Hydrography and vertical fluxes of heat and salt northeast of Svalbard in autumn / Michael Steele, James H. Morison. |
Author(s): | Steele, Michael. Morison, James H. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1993.), Vol. 98(C6) (1993) |
Abstract: | Presents analyses of temperature and salinity data collected by SALARGOS buoy during October 1988 as part of Co-ordinated Eastern Arctic Research Experiment (CEAREX). Data from drift show transition from central Arctic conditions, where thermocline lies below halocline, to shelf conditions, where thermocline and halocline coincide. Surface waters on shelf were above freezing, losing heat to advected sea ice. Atlantic Inflow Current observed on continental slope, with maximum temperature above 3°C. Discusses effect of storm is discussed, with implications for heat transfer in ice-covered conditions. |
