| Abstract: | Report of decisions reached at workshop convened by US National Research Council (NRC) Committee on Antarctic Policy and Science (CAPS) to examine governmental, environmental and scientific issues raised by 1991 Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty. Executive summary lists eight recommendations concerning US response to Protocol; chapters include introduction (which considers relationship between science and stewardship); human activity in Antarctica, governance structures (Antarctic Treaty System (ATS) and Protocol); Protocol implementation; and future for science and stewardship. Appendix A concerns tourism and includes guidelines for conduct of tourists. |
