Record #122874:

Methanesulfonic acid in coastal Antarctic snow related to sea-ice extent / K.A. Welch, Paul A. Mayewski, S.I. Whitlow.

Title: Methanesulfonic acid in coastal Antarctic snow related to sea-ice extent / K.A. Welch, Paul A. Mayewski, S.I. Whitlow.
Author(s): Welch, K. A.
Mayewski, Paul A.
Whitlow, S. I.
Date: 1993.
In: Geophysical Research Letters. (1993.), Vol. 20(6) (1993)
Abstract: Proxy records of biogenic sulphur gas obtained from ice cores have suggested that variability in marine biogenic sulphur emissions may reflect changes in climate. Increased sea-ice extent has previously been proposed as one cause of relatively high methanesulphonic acid (MSA) in samples of glacial-age ice core. Here, MSA from snow-pit samples recovered from coastal site in southern Victoria Land are analyzed. Time series of MSA correlate significantly with longest continuous record available of extent of sea ice in Southern Ocean.
